Plasma Gun Flower

I don't know why, but when I look at this image, it makes me think of a plasma gun disguised as a flower. Okay, maybe I watch too much TV, but it's just got that look...

More info: It's an unidentified plant (perhaps you can help?) that I saw in the garden at Wallington House, a National Trust property. I think it looks absolutely awesome, it's colours are great and the way it's half open, half closed really caught my eye.
